What types of tunics are there?

A tunic, an elongated blouse or jacket, has become quite popular recently, because... Tight, tight trousers and jeans came into fashion. The tunic perfectly complements these trousers.

An openwork tunic can be worn on its own, like a short dress, for example on the beach. A summer tunic is most often knitted from thin cotton or viscose threads. You can often find a description of a tunic made of bamboo or linen. But due to their high cost, such threads are not very popular.

Warm tunics are indispensable in winter or autumn. If your lower body is cold, then a long sweater or tunic will be your salvation.

How to knit a tunic

Suitable for openwork tunics:

  • openwork patterns
  • patterns of round motifs
  • patterns from granny squares
  • ribbon patterns
  • Ireland

For a warm tunic:

  • freeform
  • cross knitting technique
  • dense patterns of strong columns

For a children's tunic, you can choose all the same patterns and designs.

How to care for an openwork tunic

After knitting any product, it is necessary to subject it to WTO (moisture-heat treatment):

  1. wash
  2. squeeze slightly
  3. lay out on a flat surface
  4. pull the front and back in different directions to straighten the patterns
  5. dry
  6. iron

In the future, during use, knitted items do not require any additional hassle. It is important not to machine wash them, not to machine dry them, but to dry them only on a horizontal surface. It is better to wash with special soft detergents without bleaching.

Dress - tunic for a girl, openwork

Very beautiful tunic made using Irish lace technique.

First, we make a pattern out of paper or on a light-colored fabric. We knit the required number of leaves for the colors of the laces according to the patterns. We lay it out in the composition on the pattern and pin it with pins. The elements are pinned on the wrong side to the top, as we knit by connecting the motifs along the wrong side with an irregular mesh. We also secure the mesh with pins.

Do not tighten too much, so that after removing the finished product from fixation, it does not tighten and decrease in size. But the mesh shouldn’t sag either. To make the product more airy, we use a thinner thread for the mesh than for the motifs themselves. And when connecting the motifs, we cling to two loops without piercing through the flower or leaf. We only grab the back walls. When the product is ready, wash it in water at 30 degrees and dry it horizontally on a towel.

Openwork tunic for girls, work by NewNameNata

Tunic for a girl 4-5 years old. Crocheted, patterns from Asian magazines. Since I am submitting my first work to your site, I will write a little about myself. Knitting is my hobby; I have been knitting since childhood. My mother taught me to knit, for which I am very grateful to her. First I learned to knit, then crochet. Having mastered the hook, I gave it preference.

I knit less and less with knitting needles. I really love combining knitting and crochet in one product. I knit for myself, for my family, relatives and friends. I really like to knit for children, especially girls. I find a lot of ideas for my work on the Internet, I prefer Asian magazines - they have some kind of sophistication, charm and simplicity at the same time. But this is on the topic of “taste matters” :-)

I chose the tunic that I am sending to your site only because it is one of my last knitted items. The handbag and hat are ready for it, but I’m not posting them yet - I’m thinking about how to decorate them. I really want children's clothes to be elegant.

I knitted the tunic from the bottom up, first in knitting with ruffles (the first two patterns), then the upper part in knitting from single crochets.

I tied the edge with single crochets with a picot through 4 loops. Maybe my description will be useful to someone :-) I can also add to the description of the work about threads: 100% cotton, from old stocks, so there is no name for them. The work took about 2.5 skeins of 100 grams. The hook is Chinese, the marking number is 4, but, in my opinion, there is something wrong with their marking. In our opinion it will be either 2 or 2.5.

I made reductions for the neckline and sleeves according to these patterns from Asian magazines that I found on the Internet:

I’ll also show you the pattern I was guided by in knitting. It is designed for a height of 110 cm.
