These two additional days of rest are moved to May 2 and 3. Therefore, the May holidays 2019 will last for five whole days - from May 1 to May 5.

Please note that the weekends in January 2019 will begin at the end of this year. Since December 31, 2018 is Monday, it was decided that Russians will work for the last time this year on December 29, Saturday. That is, the holiday will begin on December 30 and last until January 8 next year.

Since ancient times, various beliefs and traditions have been associated with leap years. Today we will talk about What can a woman ask a man on Leap Day, February 29, and he has no right to refuse?.

There is an old European custom, according to which once every four years - on February 29 - a woman can ask for the hand (offer to marry her) from a man, and not vice versa. AND a man does not have the right to simply refuse from this proposal - he must either agree or “pay off” (pay a “fine” for refusal). In monetary terms, the “fine” is equal to the cost of 12 pairs of gloves. It is believed that this is how many pairs of gloves a woman will need to hide her absence. wedding ring until the next leap day.

This tradition originated in Ireland in the 4th century AD, when St. Patrick, who spread Christianity in the country, allowed women to make marriage proposals to men once every four years. This was done in order to “balance” the roles of men and women in society, just as Leap Day on February 29 balances the calendar.

In the Middle Ages, in a number of European countries this rule was even approved at the legislative level. For example, in the 13th century in Scotland, when young knights were dying en masse in battles and many girls could not find a mate, a law was passed according to which on February 29 a woman could propose to a man, and if he refused, he was obliged to pay a fine . Similar laws were passed in different times in England, Denmark and other countries.

And even in Rus' there was a similar tradition. Only “our” girls had the opportunity to call a loved one to be their husband not just for one day, but throughout the entire leap year. The leap year was called the “year of the bride,” and it was forbidden to send matchmakers to the girls, because they chose their future husbands themselves. Since then, in Russia, a leap year has been considered unlucky for weddings, since men did not have the opportunity to choose their own bride.

The weekend schedule in late December and early January is approximately the same. This means that this year it is unlikely that there will be large number any changes related to the new calendar.

This also means that you can start planning your winter holidays.

Typically, citizens are given approximately one week of vacation. This is quite enough to have a great time, regardless of how long your working day or working week is, because the main advantage of the already traditional winter holidays is precisely that you will no longer need to rest for 2 or just 3 days in a row.

This time you will have a full-fledged vacation, just like when you were a child. Of course, the winter holidays will not last 3 months, but the allotted period may be quite enough to have a great time.

Who is planning winter holidays 2018?

Typically, the planning of such vacations is carried out by the Russian Ministry of Labor. This means that the employees of this ministry are developing a plan according to which we can rest for as long as possible. So, what will the vacation schedule look like this winter?

The weekend in January, which has already become a long-standing tradition, allows many residents to fully enjoy all the delights of winter. This is a great time to have a good rest before a difficult working year and gain strength in order to work hard after all the days off are over. So this time the holidays start from December 30th. It will be Saturday.

December 31 will also be a day off, because it is Sunday. There will also be days off from January 1 to January 5, and January 6 will be a day off for those who work a five-day work week. There will also be holidays on January 7 and 8.

We can say that the holidays this year will really be quite long, so everyone will be able to relax in order to gain strength before the working week, which will begin on January 9.

How is the schedule this year?

Traditionally, the weekend schedule is drawn up taking into account Article 112 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation.

It is worth noting that some changes are possible in the current schedule, so it is likely that this schedule will be slightly adjusted after the resolution “On the postponement of holidays in 2018” is approved.

How can you spend your winter holidays?

Considering the fact that this year the holidays will be really long, you can try to go somewhere on vacation. Many people prefer to spend their winter holidays in warm countries or at least parts of the country. Others believe that best way to spend time is to while away it with your family.

This is quite normal, because not every person wants to travel far from their home. It is also worth noting that most Russians spend the winter holidays at home with their families, because such a long weekend is an excellent opportunity to find time for their closest people.

How we relax

Small changes in the weekend calendar may also be associated with the characteristics of the field of activity where you work. Also, changes in the weekend calendar are found among private companies, which may completely ignore such long holidays.

It should be understood that not every private entrepreneur can afford such a long vacation, so the official weekend calendar does not mean that literally the entire country will be on vacation at this time of year.

It is likely that all or almost all government organizations will actually go on vacation at this time, but this does not mean that gas stations and hospitals will not work at this time. If this were not so, then absolute chaos would begin in the country. In connection with this fact, we can remind you of the need to soberly assess your physical capabilities.

As you know, during the January holidays, many citizens go to winter resorts for the first time and often return home with numerous fractures and abrasions. This is a very unpleasant fact, so in order to avoid any injuries during the holidays, you should take at least basic precautions.

10 days of vacation!

In total, we get a whole 10 days off. This is quite a lot, and frankly speaking, it is a lot, so it is worth trying to spend such a long vacation usefully, although many will be much more pleased to just lie in bed and have a good rest before starting their official duties.

Well, our life consists of work and weekends, so it is not surprising that many people are so happy about the opportunity to relax for 10 whole days.

You already know dear readers how we relax on New Year 2019 and on weekends during the January holidays? Do you know what official holidays the New Year holidays will be in each month? Not yet, then we will “tell you.”

On the agenda is the calendar of holidays and weekends in 2019 in Russia: New Year's January holidays, May holidays, March 8, February 23, November and the transfer of weekends.

Let's get straight to the point. The Russian Ministry of Labor, as always, is concerned in advance about the order of the New Year holidays. So they already met in March of this year and decided (preliminarily) that:

  2. For the May holidays 2019, Russians will rest from May 1 to May 5 and from May 9 to 12;

Official holidays for New Year 2019 and January holidays

This year there are two options for the New Year holidays (possible):

  1. For the New Year we take a full 12 days off – from December 30 to January 10. The option is the most desirable for all Russians.
  2. 10 days (from 12/30/18 to 01/8/19) - optimistic, more accurate and most likely approved, and therefore official (the Ministry of Labor proposed this option for consideration).

Saturday December 29 in 2018 will be a working day for Russians. But it will be transferred as a day off to Monday, December 31st.
