New Year's wreaths appeared thanks to Johann Hinrich Wichern, a Lutheran theologian who was involved in raising children who came from poor families. During the period of fasting, they often asked Johann whether it would soon come. To help poor children in 1839, he invented a wreath made from a wheel and decorated it with nineteen small and four large candles. Every day in the morning one small candle was lit in the wreath made by Vicherny, and on Sunday a large one, thus counting down the time until the onset of the holiday.

What does the symbolism of the Advent wreath mean?

In a wreath, the presence of light and fire (the light of the world) is considered a mandatory attribute. This symbolizes the upcoming holiday - the birth of Jesus Christ.

The Advent wreath has round shape, decorated with spruce branches, ribbons and candles. The circle is considered a symbol of immortality (eternal life), and four candles are the illumination of the world, the green branches of the spruce itself.

According to tradition, when making a Christmas symbol, two colors should be used - three purple candles and one pink.

Making a Christmas wreath with your own hands at home is not that difficult! Making it is quite simple, the main thing is patience and a little imagination, and this holiday will become unforgettable for your whole family.

How can you decorate your apartment for the holiday on a budget and beautifully? There are many options, but one of the simplest options is New Year's decor- this is to make a beautiful simple festive wreath in the New Year style.

This is a very simple form of decoration, but it looks very beautiful and festive. You've probably already seen in European films that people decorate doors, walls and fireplaces with such wreaths during the Christmas period.

We are also adopting their tradition and starting to create our own wreaths for the holiday from a variety of materials.

Such decorations immediately lift my spirits!

Pine cone is the most affordable type of decor in the Urals and Siberia. We have several city parks where pine and spruce trees are planted, so there are plenty of cones.

They can be used in their original form, or they can be coated with glue or colorless varnish and covered with sparkles.

By the way, kids will also enjoy the activity of creating a wreath.

Any christmas decoration, similar to a wreath, consists of two parts: the base and the decor. The bases are very different: foam, paper, wire, fabric.

You can buy them in the store, or you can make them at home with your own hands.

Let's consider two options for the basis:

  1. We make a round base for the wreath from paper. We take newspaper spreads or any other paper and fold it across, then wrap it with another similar spread, and connect it with masking tape.

Try growing the ring to make it thicker.
Wrap the finishing layer around the entire piece with masking tape to create a white base.

  1. Also use cardboard as a base. Cut a circle of the selected diameter from a cardboard sheet.

To make it three-dimensional, glue crumpled paper to the base and cover it with masking tape.

Make a loop of strong thread around the base to hang the wreath.

Using a hot gun, we cover the wreath with pine cones; you can paint them or cover them with glitter. Or you can spray “snow” from an aerosol on top.

Leave space among the cones for the balls, otherwise they will look ugly. Glue the Christmas balls between the cones onto the base using hot glue or Crystal glue.

Decorate the wrong side with a tinsel ribbon.

This will remove the artisanal appearance of the product.

One of the easy options for a wreath on the door is made from Christmas balls.

You will need:

  • Thicker wire
  • 2 packs of small balls.

We make a ring from wire.

Therefore, you need to take a thick wire so that it does not deform under the weight of the balls.

We thread the end of the wire into a skirt with a hole and string the balls, turning them in different directions.

Twist the ends of the wire.

You can make New Year's shoes, Christmas trees, flowers and other New Year paraphernalia.

Here are several options for ideas for decorating a wreath with felt crafts.

Even from fabric ribbons you can create beauty.

Very New Year's.

New Year's wreath made of balls and live fir branches

The branch must be divided into small branches.

We place each subsequent one on top of the previous one and often wrap it with thread or rope.

Now we connect the ends of the branches and wrap them also in a spiral with thread. It turned out to be a circle.

If there are bald spots left somewhere, then add small branches to these places, wrapping them with threads to the base.

Now decorate with balloons and other decor.

The balls can also be tied with fishing line to pine branches, or you can glue them with hot glue.

To prevent the needles from quickly falling off, it is advised to put the branches in glycerin for a week, which preserves moisture and pigment inside the branches.

You can make a base from thick wire by gluing spruce branches to them, or you can tie the branches themselves together with wire in the shape of a ring.

If you use dried twigs or vines, it is better to twist it in a spiral.

And you need to take branches of bushes that do not prick.

A simple New Year's crown made of tinsel

Tinsel is present in every home. This shaggy ribbon is an indispensable attribute of the New Year. It is decorated with walls, windows, and a Christmas tree. But it’s also interesting to use it for a wreath. But it’s better to take tinsel that is bright, fluffy and adheres well to the base so that there are no bald spots.

You can make a wreath from silver, gold or red elements, choosing the desired tone of tinsel.

You will need:

  • Wire
  • Masking tape
  • Paper
  • Green paints
  • 3 tinsel 2 m each
  • Decor

We form a ring from thick wire so that it is strong.

We take any paper, wrap it around the wire and wrap it with masking tape.

Paint the workpiece green and let it dry.

Now we glue the tinsel to the base. Fix the edge with hot glue.

In some places, already wound tinsel can be glued with hot glue.

You can wrap the wreath with Christmas tree beads, ribbon or braid.

It is better to paint the cones white, golden, or sprinkle them with shimmer or grains of glitter.

DIY New Year's wreath made of burlap

Now comes the idea of everything natural. Therefore, you can take burlap as the highlight of the wreath. It is sold in hardware stores. Or you can buy the bag itself and cut it into ribbons of the desired width and length.

The beautiful texture and deliberate roughness of the fabric will only add aesthetics to the decoration, especially if you also decorate it with natural materials: dry twigs, peach pits, cones, rope or dried orange or lemon slices.

You will need:

  • Wreath base made of paper covered with tape or wire base
  • Burlap pieces
  • Cones, balls, candles and other decor
  • Hot glue gun

You can twist a wreath backing from three wire rings of different diameters, but it is easier to replace it with a lightweight paper circle. A ring is formed from newspapers and covered with plain or masking tape. Paint it in white or cover with white paper.

You can put burlap in bleach, then it will have a more interesting color, you can paint it with acrylic paint.

It is wrapped in burlap, the glue glues all the folds and beautiful bends. Try to add more volume and folds.

Decor is already glued onto it: pine cones, painted apricot kernels or avocado pits, beads, braid and more.

Ideas for wreaths made of paper and napkins

A lot of ideas are invented using only paper and its derivatives in creativity.

It will be beautiful if you make stars out of paper and stick them on the base.

Can we take the frame from toilet paper, they are hard to maintain their shape and give the desired composition to the wreath.

We use toilet paper rolls

You will need:

  • 5 bushings
  • Green paint or spray
  • Glue gun
  • Beads

The bushings we need are not ecological ones, which dissolve in water, but ordinary ones, because we will paint them with green paint on both sides.

Once dry, mark lines along the entire length of 1.5 cm and cut.

By the way, you can first cut the parts and then paint them, but there will be a lot of them and the process will be more labor-intensive.

Now we form a flower from five petals and glue them together.

We fold the resulting flowers in the shape of a circle and also glue all the particles.

We glue beads or buttons in scarlet or burgundy colors to the center as an attribute of the New Year.

Try adding ribbons, tinsel or gold braid.

Napkin wreath

Napkins are quite cheap and come in different sizes and colors. It is better to take plain shades.

You will need:

  • Wreath base
  • Pack of napkins
  • Hot glue
  • Decor

We make the backing by folding newspaper spreads into a circle and wrapping them with masking tape.

Now a pack of napkins solid color cut into four parts.

We take a square of 3-4 layers, put a pencil in the middle so that the square fits onto it, but does not have a hole, and glue the outer end with hot glue to the base.

We do this all over the entire base.

Now we glue in beads, light balls, shiny ribbons.

The compositional point itself can be at the top, bottom or side.

And also evenly divided throughout the circle.

A BIT OF HISTORY

If in Russia the tradition of decorating your home with New Year's wreaths is gradually taking root, but not everyone tries to try it on themselves, then in Europe such accessories have long been held in high esteem by the majority of the population.

According to Catholic custom, wreaths are not hung on the door, but placed on the table, and candles are placed in the wreath: the first candle is lit on the first Sunday of a four-week fast, a week later - the second, a week later - the third, and at the end of the fast - the fourth.

This story began back in 1839... The appearance is associated with the Lutheran theologian Johann Hinrich Wichern, who raised children from poor families.

It was difficult for the children to navigate by the date of Christmas, and to make it easy for them to count, Johann made the basis for a wreath from an old wheel, decorating it with nineteen small red candles and four large white ones.

Every morning Wichern lit one small candle, and on Sundays a large one. The fire symbolized the growing anticipation of the birthday of Jesus Christ, who personified purity and light.

The round shape of wreaths, decorated with fir greenery and candles, was associated with the globe and four cardinal directions. The circle was considered to be a symbol of eternal life, which Sunday gives us, the green color is the embodiment of life, and candles are light.

Currently, it is not necessary to make wreaths yourself; they are sold in flower shops, but in order to breathe symbolism into them, hide the mystery of expectation and pay tribute to Christmas, we strongly recommend that you start making them, because in the process of creating a miracle you will subconsciously be imbued with the sacredness of this action and will maximally feel the approach of something warm, light and living. Don't be afraid, making wreaths is not difficult, the most difficult thing is to get down to work and think through its design.

HOW TO MAKE A NEW YEAR'S WREATH WITH YOUR OWN HANDS: MASTER CLASS

The first thing you need to decide on is what to make the frame for the wreath from. Actually, anything is suitable for these purposes, the main thing is to give it the shape of a ring.

Grapevine, newspapers, tree twigs, old watering or vacuum hose, fabric roller, cardboard, wire, foam tape, dry grass, corrugated pipe, embroidery hoop, Thermaflex - all this is suitable for the frame. But still, the classic base is natural materials in the form of straw, the rim of a wooden wheel, vines and twigs.

The prepared frame is braided with coniferous branches clockwise, and the bare part of the previous branch should be covered by the lush part of the next one. The second layer is woven in the opposite direction - this will make the wreath more magnificent. The branches are fastened together with wire (preferably green, so that it is not noticeable against the background of pine needles).

Repeat weaving the wreath until it satisfies you with its splendor and becomes pleasing to the eye. In addition to coniferous branches, holly or thuja branches are perfect.

If you are making a long-lasting wreath that will serve you for many years, replace natural pine needles with artificial ones. We can say that half the work is done. All you have to do is decorate the New Year's wreath with the selected accessories.

NEW YEAR'S WREATH DECOR

The classic option is to decorate the wreath with a red satin ribbon and hang it on the front door, but it will be boring, so we will offer you several options for decorating a New Year's wreath.

Satin ribbons. Not just one, as in the classic version, but many. With their help you can make a very elegant wreath. Cut the ribbons into equal lengths, fold them in half and glue them one by one overlapping each other onto the base. Finish the wreath with a linen bow and a drop of citrus oil. The aroma will be magical.

Gift boxes. Miniature gifts made of thick colored paper decorated with bows will look beautiful on a wreath. The boxes are glued using a glue gun, but do not overdo it so that the New Year's wreath does not look tacky.

Gift boxes can be diluted with fruits, nuts, dried fruits, dried inflorescences, berries, cinnamon, chili peppers. It will be very bright, fragrant and original.

Wool threads. Decorating a wreath with woolen threads does not require pine weaving. You simply take a base (ideally a foam ring) and wrap it with thick colored threads, possibly in several layers. Additionally, you can decorate the wreath with Christmas balls, felt figurines of animals, birds, and plants. To give the wreath a pleasant aroma, tie a canvas bag to it, pouring aromatic herbs into it (lavender works well).

Christmas balls. A wreath of Christmas balls looks great. The balls are glued to the base to each other with a glue gun. You can use large and small balls of different colors or close to each other.

Balloons can be diluted lush bow, garlands, tinsel and soft toys. Something like this, but only in a slightly different guise.

An interesting fact is that Christmas tree balls symbolize the fruits of good and evil that Adam and Eve tasted in the Garden of Eden.

Cones. The process is similar to decorating a New Year's wreath with balls - glue them to the base in a circle. Additionally, decorate the wreath with bows, beads and rowan branches. Glue some forest animal and a couple of spruce branches to the wreath. You will get a forest in miniature.

Other options. In general, you can make a chaotic wreath, decorating it with absolutely everything that comes to hand: satin ribbons, pine cones, dried flowers, dried fruits, fruits, vegetables, flowers, citrus peels, cayenne pepper, sweets, gift boxes, yarn, Christmas decorations, decorative braid, beads, nuts, mushrooms, berries, cones, miniature toys self made, gingerbread men and other Christmas baked goods, garland, tinsel, cinnamon sticks, woolen threads, bows, various figures, fabric, burlap, wooden letters, glitter, buttons, beads, butterflies, wine corks, candles.

A little imagination and aesthetic taste and your New Year's wreath will be beyond praise.

Additionally, you can decorate the wreath with artificial snow, making it from glitter and semolina, or buy it ready-made in cans.

Materials:

  • corrugated cardboard base;
  • a piece of knitted fabric;
  • threads of various colors and textures;
  • small red New Year's balls;
  • satin ribbon;
  • beads

Work progress

Cut two circles of the same diameter from corrugated cardboard and make a hole in the center.

Please note: there are longitudinal stripes on the corrugated cardboard; glue the circles together so that the stripes on the first base are perpendicular to the stripes on the second. This is necessary for greater strength of the base and so that the cardboard does not bend along these strips under the weight of the decor.

Cut a strip of fabric approximately 5-6 cm wide and 2 m long.

It is convenient to use knitwear to decorate the base, since the edges of the knitwear practically do not fray.

Wrap the cardboard circle, placing one layer on top of the other, and glue the tip of the fabric to the base.

Wrap many balls of different sizes from threads. Balls can be made in one of the following ways:

as a base you can use small foam balls, which are sold in craft stores;

or take a piece of newspaper, crumple it and wind threads around it until a ball of the correct round shape is formed.

Heat the glue gun to the desired temperature and begin gluing the balls to the base. You can move in a circle, clockwise, gradually filling the space of the base, or in a chaotic order, glue large balls first, then medium and small ones. You need to make sure that there is no free space left, so try to glue the balls tightly enough to each other.

The remaining unfilled areas of the base can be masked with Christmas balls, gluing them on top of the balls.

Wrap decorative beads around the wreath, secure the ends of the beads with glue reverse side.

Use the same beads to make a pendant for a wreath.

Make a bow from wide braid and glue it to the beads.

In order to make a Christmas wreath from pine cones with your own hands, you need to stock up on this in advance natural materials. On New Year's Eve in December it is very difficult to get them. Christmas(in the Russian Orthodox Church - According to the flesh, the Nativity of the Lord God and our Savior Jesus Christ; among the Old Believers - Ro same the kingdom of Christ) is one of the main Christian holidays, established in honor of the birth in the flesh of Jesus Christ from the Virgin Mary.

The Russian Orthodox Church and other churches using the Julian calendar celebrate January 7 according to the Gregorian calendar (in the 20th-21st centuries).

Advent wreath- a typical decoration in homes during the Advent period.

Advent(from lat. adventus- arrival) - waiting time preceding the holiday Nativity of Christ, during which believers fast and prepare for the holiday. The first day of Advent in the Roman Rite is defined as the 4th Sunday before Christmas (depending on the year, this Sunday falls between November 27 and December 3).

Advent wreath or Christmas wreath

One of the most famous Advent traditions is the "Advent wreath" - a wreath of fir branches with four candles woven into it. On the first Sunday one candle is lit, on the second - two and so on, that is, it becomes lighter every week. On the last Sunday, all four candles fill the house with warmth and light. These 4 Sundays are called the days of Advent

Each Sunday of Advent is dedicated to a specific “memory”, which corresponds to the Gospel readings during the service.

First Sunday of Advent. On this day the first candle in the Advent wreath is lit - Candle of Prophecy . It symbolizes the Old Testament prophecies of the coming of Christ. The French celebrate the fulfillment of these prophecies - the coming of the Savior to earth as a Child, His coming into the hearts of men through faith in the Word of God, and His final coming in glory to judge all mortals.

Second Sunday of Advent. On this day, the Candle of Prophecy and the second candle in the Advent wreath, the Bethlehem Candle, are lit. It represents the coming to earth of Jesus, the Son of God, born of the Virgin Mary. This is a symbol of preparation for the meeting of the Infant Christ.

Third Sunday of Advent. On this day, the first two candles are lit and the third is added - the Shepherds' Candle. The Shepherd's Candle signifies the coming of the Savior into the hearts of ordinary people through faith in His Holy Word. She seems to be talking about how the shepherds saw the Savior with my own eyes and they believed. So all believers should see Him with the eyes of faith. For the French, this candle also symbolizes how ordinary people share their faith in Christ, like the shepherds who told everyone they met about Him.

Fourth Sunday of Advent. On this day, the first three candles are lit and the last one, the Angelic Candle, is added. It signifies the last coming of the Savior with all the Angels to take all true believers with him to heaven.

Catholic Advent wreaths are often decorated with three purple and one pink candles in accordance with the liturgical colors of Advent services. The pink candle is lit on the third Sunday of Advent, which is called Gaudete (Rejoice!).

The Advent wreath was introduced into Christmas traditions by the Hamburg Lutheran theologian Johann Hinrich Wichern, who took in several children from poor families. During Advent (the waiting time preceding the Feast of the Nativity of Christ), children constantly asked the teacher when Christmas would come. So that children could count down the days until Christmas, in 1839 Wichern made a wreath from an old wooden wheel, decorated with nineteen small red and four large white candles. Every morning one small candle was lit in this wreath, to which a large candle was added on Sundays.

The round shape of the wreath symbolizes the wheel of life, which has been decorating holidays since pagan times. Its shape remains unchanged, and the material for production can be very diverse - branches, straw, flowers, fruits, cones, nuts, candles, and so on. The circle is the original proto-sign, which has its symbolic expression in all cultures, since the disk of the Sun served as the original circle, and everything was built in its image and likeness.

As a rule, a Christmas wreath is made from pine branches. I do not recommend using spruce branches - they are short-lived. The circle symbolizes eternal life, which is given by resurrection, greenery is the color of life and youth, and candles are the light that will illuminate the world at Christmas.
The wreath is decorated not only with candles, but also with bells. Thus, in Scandinavia, their melodic ringing symbolizes the completion of all work and invites them to have fun. In Europe, the wreath carries a special meaning and significance. This is a symbol of faith and joy about the birth of the Savior and his coming into the world. England has its own belief that the ringing of bells is the funeral of evil spirits and the greeting of Christ.

Special mention must be made of the red ribbons that the classic Christmas wreath is so rich in. In Christianity, red is a royal color and signifies the future resurrection of Christ.

Lavishly decorated with ribbons, pine cones, bells and candles, an Advent wreath can be a true work of art.

Did you know that after hanging Christmas wreath on the door, will you thereby attract good luck to your home? The circle of the Advent wreath symbolizes the end of the outgoing year and drives away evil spirits.

You can, of course, buy a Christmas wreath, but you can also make it yourself. For those with older children, this is a great way to spend time with your child—creating together.
